William Knut Overnes
August 9, 1968 – January 18, 2024
William passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on January 18th, 2024. Will was born in Dawson Creek, B.C. and grew up in Oliver, BC. He graduated from South Okanagan Secondary School in 1986. He worked for many years in Oliver including as a supervisor for a furniture making company and building a home with his father, before coming to Nanaimo. Will was preceded in his death by his father, Knut Overnes. He is survived by his mother Helen Overnes, sisters Kari Fetherston and Joyce (Richard) Pielou and their children Chelsea Marie, Kayley, and Chelsea Ocea, and by his former partner Karen Karmaschek and step children Lewis, Misty and Kyle Karmaschek. He enjoyed getting out in nature and going on adventures, as well as video gaming. Will suffered a number of injuries over the years including head injuries and he lived in pain for much of his life. Despite Will’s challenges he did his best to be a good friend, neighbour, partner and step-parent. As Kyle put it, “A great man dealt a bad hand. Thanks for all the adventures and stories we have left to remember. Take care Will, you are resting in peace.” Wills’s family wish to thank Carson for taking him to hospital, Dr. King and the staff at the NRGH Emergency and Palliative Care Unit for looking after him until his death, and the Friends of Schizophrenia Society for providing safe, affordable housing for him.
