It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Sofie Rothe, who passed away in her sleep at the age of 93, in North Vancouver. Sofie is predeceased by her husband Otto in 1994. She is lovingly remembered by her children Martin (Jill) of Oliver, Wendy (Mark) of North Vancouver, Fred (Marge) of Sherwood Park, Alberta and her grandchildren Alex, Anne Marie, Julia and Jonathan.

Sofie was born and raised in Romania; her early years were affected by the tumult of World War 2. As a young adult, Sofie survived two years in a labour camp in Russia, thereafter she worked in Switzerland before meeting and marrying her husband, Otto, in Germany. They immigrated to Canada in 1953 and lived in Alberta where their 3 children were born. Seeking a change and warmer weather they moved to Oliver in 1964 where they became organic orchardists and continued to raise their family. Sofie had a green thumb and loved spending time in her vegetable garden and in the family orchard. She was also very hospitable and often had friends and family gathered around her kitchen table to share her delicious home cooking.

Sofie was a wonderful, hardworking and generous woman who devoted her life to her family. She was open and kind to everyone she met and will always be remembered for her gracious spirit and the love she shared with us all. She will be forever missed.
