Sidney Lorne Svendsen

January 26, 1946 – February 7, 2025

Sidney passed peacefully in the afternoon on Friday, February 7, 2025, with all his family surrounding him. He was born in a small house in Canwood, SK, the 3rd of 5 children born to Viggo and Esther Svendsen. In 1949, the family moved to the Christian Valley, then Princeton and finally settled in Osoyoos.

Sidney and Marion (Reinhold) met as children, and he went on to marry her on February 15, 1964. Soon after they welcomed their first born, son, Bradley, followed by daughter, Shelly and youngest son, Robert.

Sid spent his working career logging. First with his father then with two of his brothers and then both sons joining him and carrying on after his retirement.

After retiring in 2006, Sid and Marion spent most of their time camping, fishing and traveling to places like Alaska, Australia and many places in between. Sid’s happy place was being in the bush. They spent winters traveling south to Arizona in their trailer/5th wheel and then their motorhome where they hiked and explored the areas either in their side by side or in their Jeep meeting many great friends in their travels.

Sidney was predeceased by his parents, Viggo and Esther; stepfather, Melvin Schelstad; sister, Arlene (& Dean) York; brother, Vern (& Agnes) Svendsen; father and mother-in-law, Arthur & Irene Reinhold; brother-in-law, Robert and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Johnny Elsoff.

He is survived by his wife, Marion (one week shy) of 61 years; children, Bradley, Shelly (Dean) and Robert (Gayle); seven grandchildren, Tyson, Brittany (Matt), Sydney, Kael, Mitchell (Paige), Jenna (Justice) and Jessalyn; four great-grandchildren, Brixton, Cypress, Erza, Kalen with one more on the way; brothers, Dwayne (Darlene) and Kevin; brother-in-law, Gordon (Phyllis) along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Tarr, Dr. Kane, Dr. Dhillon, and the Palliative Care Staff for all their support and care.

A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Darren Siegle at 11:00 am, Saturday February 22, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 6 Finch Crescent, Osoyoos, BC followed by a reception in the church lower hall.
