Merle Paul Mohninger
March 19, 1940 – October 2, 2024
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Merle Paul Mohninger, better known as Paul, passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side at the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 84.
Paul was born to Henry and Mary Mohninger on March 19, 1940. As a young man, he went to school to become a Minister, met his first wife Lois and started his pastoring in a community called Poplar Point in Manitoba. He went on to pastor in Balcarres, Raymore, Melville, and Terrace. In 1987, he moved to Osoyoos where he was a pastor at the Osoyoos Baptist Church until his wife Lois fell ill and he decided to retire; as much as someone who loved to pastor can retire.
He remarried in 2001 to Barbara and the two of them went to Saskatchewan to pastor a church in Balcarres for a few years before coming back to Osoyoos to retire for good.
Paul loved to fish in the Skeena and Nass rivers. He also loved to garden, grow roses and take long walks with his dogs. In his free time, he volunteered as a chaplain in the correctional facility and worked with the AA groups in town.
Paul is predeceased by his mother and father Mary and Henry Mohninger; his brother Harold Mohninger; his first wife Lois Mohninger; and his son Wesley Mohninger.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Mohninger; his son Richard (Susan); daughter Kathy; daughter-in-law Myra; grandchildren James, Christy, Patricia, and Kristen; stepdaughters Theresa (Spencer) and Tracy; step-grandchildren Bailey (Jordan), Caitlyn, Raistlyn, and Chase; and he was especially proud of his step great-grandchild Maverick.
In honour of Paul’s memory, please consider making a donation to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
