June 25, 1939 – September 29, 2024

On Sunday, September 29, 2024, Maria Pereira of Osoyoos passed away surrounded by family after a
short battle with cancer. She is predeceased by her husband Abilio Barata Pereira and sister, Maria de Jesus Jorge.

Maria is survived by her son Joe; daughter Isabel, son-in-law Steven; grandson Joseph; granddaughter Katie; brothers Alfredo (Mirita), Florentino (Felisbela), and Laurentino Costa (Judy); brother-in-law Manuel Jorge; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Prior to Maria moving to Canada in 1965, she was a seamstress in France.  She then worked as a farmer/orchardist for the majority of her working life in Canada.

In her free time, Maria loved to garden, bake, sew and do crochet.  She also enjoyed visits to Portugal and found strength and solace in her Catholic faith.
