Margaret (Maggie) Isabella Lutz
May 30, 1937 – August 12, 2024
Long-time resident of Osoyoos, Margaret Lutz (nee Hamilton), affectionately known by all as Maggie, passed away peacefully August 12,2024 at Mariposa Gardens – she was 87 years old. She is predeceased by her husband Russell Lutz and sister Jackie.
Maggie is survived by her sister Diane Makara (Peter); son Cam (Lynn), daughters, Kim and Sandy; grandchildren Raina, Mitch, Kelsey (Brendan), Connor, Quinn, Ryan and Monty; and great granddaughter Orla.
Maggie was born on May 30, 1937 in Vancouver B.C. to Robert and Winnifred Hamilton. She lived in Vancouver until the men of her family returned from the Second World War. Soon after, they moved to Oliver, BC, along with many of her relatives, where she grew up surrounded by family – grandparents, aunts and uncles, and her cousins (which were like brothers and sisters)!
Her childhood was filled with many simple joys – endless sagebrush and orchard, river and mountains – with freedom to roam, explore, create and experience many fond memories with loved ones!
It was in her late teens while working for BC Tel that she met and later married her husband of 34 years Russell Lutz. Maggie and Russ enjoyed many trips to Vancouver Island and Campbell River, their farm and animals, playing cards and hosting many memorable parties in the rec room with family and friends.
After Russell died, Maggie enjoyed numerous camping and Casino trips with her cousins and although not a big traveller did treasure her one big trip to Cabo San Lucas. Maggie’s preferred mode of travel was going for a “drive” and whether on her own, enticing one to come along or as a passenger in later years, it gave her great pleasure!
Maggie was a phenomenal cook known especially for her pizzas, potato salad, soups and baked beans to name a few. She was also an avid sports fan and excelled in volleyball, basketball and had many great memories of curling bonspiels!
When watching TV, whether it was hockey, tennis, rugby, curling – the sports channel was on!
Maggie was the best “Gramier” ever! Her grandchildren spent endless hours at grammas house swimming, playing, eating, hosting birthday parties, and creating Christmas and Easter performances together as part of the CKC club! As well, Maggie was the quintessential sports gramma who loved to watch her grandchildren participate in their various sports – travelling to countless figure skating competitions, hockey and soccer games!
Maggie was kind, generous and lots of fun – all who loved her dearly will never forget her!
The family would like to thank her “girls” at Mariposa and Dr. DeVries for the many years of kindness, support and care!
“Home is she now, to be with loved ones long not seen”
