Lyla Jean Marie Kallenberger (nee Grindler)

October 19, 1937 — October 10, 2025

Lyla Kallenberger, age 87 passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025 surrounded by her family, in the Penticton Hospital.

Lyla had a kind and generous nature and was loved by all who knew her. She was raised in Osoyoos but moved away for several years. Osoyoos was always near and dear to her heart and she vacationed there with her family many times before moving back in 1996 to retire and live closer to her parents. She settled in to the community and made lots of friends over the years.

She gave many years of volunteer service to the Mariposa Gardens Retirement & Care Community as Auxiliary President. The Auxiliary organized fundraising and several events to enrich the Mariposa resident’s lives. They did everything from selling apple pies, large yard sales, candy cart, social tea parties with live entertainment and Christmas gifts for each resident.

Lyla is survived by her loving husband; Windsor Kallenberger, her six children: Laurie Curtis (Brian), Lynn Lewis (Mike), Doug Coulson (Belinda), Wendy Bown (Ernest), Teddy Harley (David), Mark Coulson and Windsor’s two daughters Janna & Kerri. Grandchildren: Cambie (Denis), Cody (Laura), Kyle (Andrea), Andrew, Holly, Mathew, Casandra (Dylan). Great Grandchildren: Jonathan, Basil, Zachary & Ryan. Sister: Joanne Lynn, Brothers: Marvin Grindler (Vivian), Don Grindler (Cher), John Grindler & Rob Grindler. Lyla was predeceased by her parents: Kurt & Amie Grindler and her husband Ronald Coulson.

The family would like to recognize their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Oliver and Penticton hospitals for their excellent care and support during Lyla’s stay.

Lyla’s legacy will live on in the lives she touched, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mom, friend and community supporter.

As per Lyla’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held with her immediate family at a later date.
