Isobel Margaret Hart

June 27, 1928 – January 29, 2025

Much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife, Isobel Margaret Hart (née Sherman) passed away peacefully Jan 29, 2025, age 96 years.

She was predeceased by her father Leslie, mother Nanna, siblings Yvonne and Les, and the love of her life, husband David.

Isobel is very lovingly survived by son Glenn (Heather), grandchildren Eryn (Al), Jonathan (Rosa) and great-grandchildren Daniel and Victoria, along with many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Isobel worked many years as an elementary school teacher, always supporting, encouraging and challenging students to be their own personal, best person. She led by example. Always willing to volunteer her energies to help others, she found many opportunities through church groups and the Kiwanis Club. Her connection to God began as a child in Saskatchewan, with Sunday school and Bible study. It led her eventually to the Grace Lutheran Church in Osoyoos, where her lifelong enduring Faith kept her close to her church family and community. She was welcomed, loved and supported by many and found the Church both nurtured and supported her strength and spirituality.

Throughout her life, Isobel would garden, paint, travel and create. She would grow food for sustenance and flowers for beauty. She would draw and paint, with great talent, many beautiful images. She would travel the continent with David, and they would eventually circumnavigate the world, returning with many memories, experiences and mementoes. She would then collect, create and collate into scrapbooks as her contribution to family, that they might lovingly share her experiences. She enjoyed nothing more than exchanging letters and pictures with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of which she archived with love and affection. Daily phone calls ensured she was present in the family and able to share in her loved ones lives.

Isobel was an animal lover and long time supporter of animal welfare groups. From childhood in Saskatchewan, she had pets and farm animals around. Our family always had pets ranging from cats and dogs, goats and ponies, to sheep on the hobby farm. Upon moving to Osoyoos she did not acquire any pets … they all found HER. One beloved little dog and a whole range of orphaned or semi-feral cats were fortunate to wander up the driveway and call Isobel and David’s house, home.

Love, devotion, family and Faith define who Isobel was. Though we will miss her dearly, we take hope and quiet joy knowing that she will be at peace, and with her beloved husband David, Together Forever In God’s Keeping.

The family extends sincere gratitude to so many friends in the Grace Lutheran Church and Osoyoos community, for their ongoing support of this very special woman. We would also take this opportunity to thank Dr. DeVries, the Osoyoos Health Centre nurses, SOGH acute care nurses and doctors, and the McKinney Place nurses and care aides for their compassionate care and support of Isobel.

If ever there was a life to be celebrated, it would be all 96 years of Isobel Hart’s.

A funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday February 5, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church, 6 Finch Crescent, Osoyoos, BC followed by interment and committal at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery. A reception in the church lower hall followed the interment.
