We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Hilda Summerell on December 19, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Frances Wilson; her two brothers, William (Bill) and George Wood; her nephew Thomas, and niece Tanya Summerell. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gilbert (Gil); her three sisters, Donna Peterman (Keith), Wanda Summerell (Tom) and Shirley Parent; sisters-in-law, Doris Kinces and Laura Summerell; daughter Launa Gemakas, and son, Thomas Levy (Aelia), as well as grandchildren, Jarret Turcotte (Michelle), Chrystal Denham (Ken), Jorden Yanoshewski, Dalton Levy (Galina), Owen and Josephine Levy, Zackary, and Dylan Gemakas as well as five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews as well as two special daughters, Gail Grismer and Annie Fodor. Dodie moved to BC with her parents in 1958 and graduated from Claremont High School. Shortly after graduating she started working in the restaurant industry, and soon became manager of two restaurants as well as an adult nightclub. After leaving the entertainment industry, she worked for Canada Post in quality control and then left to work for the provincial government taxation branch. She loved to travel including bus trips to Reno, and Las Vegas, cruises to Alaska, and the pacific coast, as well as flights to Hawaii. Cuba, Mexico, Romania, and Bulgaria. Dodie was an excellent seamstress and crafter. She, and her two crafting buddies Pat Caley, and Margaret Davis participated in many craft fairs. Dodie also made quilts for all her grandchildren, as well as fur teddy bears for sisters, but was unable to make any more after suffering a series of strokes in 2017. There will be no service as per Dodie’s request, but a family celebration of life will be arranged in the Spring.
