
Helen Jeanette De Witte
October 21, 1930 – February 18, 2025
On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Mrs. Helen Jeanette De Witte of Osoyoos passed away peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital at the age of 94 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Olaf C. Hanson and Minnie M. Hanson; husband, Marvin J. De Witte; daughter, Darlene Stelmacker; sister, Viola Marriott and brothers Merle Hanson and Alfred Hanson.
Helen will be fondly remembered by her loving family including daughter, Gloria High; son, Donaven; grandchildren, Nathan Stelmacker. Katelynn (Ben) Peterson, Olivia, Emilia, Ariya and Sean (Nichole) De Witte, Zoe, Ozzy, Bailee, Sonny and Kacey De Witte and Shaelyn (Eddie) Angeles.
Helen was born on October 21, 1930 in Benalto, AB to Olaf and Minnie Hanson. The family moved to Bridesville when she was around 14 and lived on a ranch on Sidley Mountain Road. On June 1, 1951, Helen and Marvin had a double wedding with Helen’s sister Viola & Horace Marriott. Helen and Marvin lived in Bridesville. Ymir, Salmo and moved to Osoyoos in 1965.
She faithfully attended the Osoyoos Christian Centre. Helen was famous for her award winning homemade bread, buttermilk pancakes and waffles with peaches and ice cream and a family meal was not complete unless Grandma Helen brought creamed peas. Helen also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking.
Mom, grandma, great-grandma, you will always be loved, remembered and missed.
Donations are gratefully accepted for the Osoyoos Christian Centre.
A celebration of Helen’s life was officiated by Pastor Rod Fair at 2:00 pm, Saturday February 22, 2025 at the Osoyoos Christian Centre followed by a reception in the church lower hall. Helen will be laid to rest in the Bridesville Cemetery at a later date.
