Betty Jo Fleming
May 2, 1945 – October 22, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Jo Fleming at Mariposa Care Home in Osoyoos, B.C., at the age of 80.
Jo was predeceased by her parents, Beth and Joe Littlefield. She is survived by her husband John of 58 years, her daughter Heather of Vancouver, her son Brent (Blanka) of Calgary, granddaughters Maddie and Syd of Calgary, and her sisters Sherry (Ian) and Gay (Rick) and brother Terry of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Jo was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, before moving to BC in 1971. Jo graduated from Sault Collegiate, was Miss Bon Soo 1965, and was valedictorian of her 1966 class at St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Jo had a long career as a staff nurse before returning to school in her 40s. After graduating with her B.Sc. in Nursing from the University of Victoria, she transitioned to nursing administration and worked as Director of Care and Manager of long-term care facilities in Salmon Arm, Kelowna, and Osoyoos. Jo was a natural leader and gravitated to leadership positions, whether at work or volunteering in the community.
Jo enjoyed her vacations, especially to the Oregon Coast and to many destinations in Mexico. In retirement, Jo & John also enjoyed many years at their winter home in Arizona.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. DeVries and the staff at Mariposa Care Home for their exceptional support, care and kindness during this most difficult last year of her life.
Jo, Mom, we are going to miss you.
Arrangements are entrusted to Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service and Crematorium.
As per Jo’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
