Alma Annie (Ackerman) Upsdell

October 20, 1929 – July 31, 2024

Alma Annie (Ackerman) Upsdell was born in Red Deer, Alberta, on October 20, 1929 and died in Oliver, B.C. on July 31, 2024, at age 94.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Bruce Upsdell and her son, David Bruce Upsdell. Her parents were Alfred William Ackerman and Thelma Eleanor (New) Ackerman.

She is survived by her brother, Edward (Anne), her sisters, Muriel, Georgina “Jean”, and Eileen (Ben); her son, Charles “Chuck” (Gillian); her daughter, Eleanor; her grandsons, Jonathan, Joel (Paige), Nathan and Kevin; her great grandson, Jayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma was a member of the B.C. Genealogical Society and an avid amateur genealogist. She even had a family tree website called “Seeking the Herd” in regards to her huge interest in collecting elephant memorabilia. She was also very involved as a faithful member of the Anglican Church of Canada, attending church in both Vancouver and Oliver. For many years she enjoyed singing with the Oliver Songsters.

Besides doing extensive family research and keeping detailed “memory albums”, her special interests included knitting, crocheting, reading, jigsaw and word games puzzles, and using her laptop to produce church bulletins and personal greeting cards and letters.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on her next birthday, October 20, at St. Edward the Confessor Anglican Church in Oliver, BC.

Her ashes will be interred next to her husband in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, B.C.

No flowers, by request. Donations are suggested to either the Canadian Cancer Society, the B.C. Genealogical Society, or the Anglican Church of Canada.
