Allan Gordon Harris

1943–2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Gordon Harris on June 3, 2025. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Allan leaves behind a legacy of kindness, passion, and dedication.

Allan was predeceased by his sister Terile, daughter Laura, mother Ann Cooper (née Griffin), stepfather Phil Cooper, father Harry, and brother Tim. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; his son, Brett; (Elizabeth)  grandchildren Emma and Loïc.  Also survived by sister, Tammy; his brother, Tony; and several cousins.

Born in Victoria in 1943, Allan moved to Penticton in 1952 when his father tried out for the Penticton Vees. He attended the University of British Columbia, earning a degree in chemistry, and began his career at the Forest Products Lab at UBC and the Health Protection Branch in Vancouver.

In 1974, Allan and his family relocated to Ottawa, where he worked for Customs and Excise. He represented Canada as an expert in organic tariffs, attending World Customs meetings in Brussels, and working in Thailand and Mexico during the early NAFTA years.

Allan was determined to enjoy life to the fullest. He had many passions—including golf, curling, hockey, running, cycling, weightlifting, reading, and photography. He generously devoted his time to coaching his children in various sports and later served the Ottawa baseball community, both within East Nepean and as the city’s Big League President.  He was also the president of two curling clubs.

A lifelong seeker of knowledge, Allan loved learning about the earth, history, and astronomy. He was an avid traveler and documented his many adventures with his ever-present camera.

Allan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
