
Albert John Coy
October 29, 1948 – February 19, 2025
John was called home February 19,2025 after a short vacation in Osoyoos at the Dewar family home.
John was born in Oliver at St. Martins Hospital to Don and Willene Coy. He attended Oliver Elementary School and SOSS graduating in 1968. He also attended community college in Yakima in the early 70s.
John spent time travelling through Europe and New Zealand in his 20’s. Returning to Canada John worked at the Crown Pointe Hotel in Trail he then managed the Barley Mill and Pilgram House bars in Penticton. John and his youngest brother Tim, went on to operate DeCoy Tavern in Penticton. John was always a man of few words, witty and funny with a dry sense of humour. His cooking skills were well known, and his favourite pastime was enjoying and visiting with friends over a beer.
John and youngest brother Tim have been business partners and inseparable for almost 30 years. If you knew one you knew them both.
He is survived by his siblings Maureen Balcean, Gerri (Reza) Binab, Sandi (Barry) Dewar, Vickie (Ron) Fairburn, Marty Makway, Terry (Karen) Coy, Julie (Robin) Robertson. Tim Coy as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tamara Browne, Dr. DeVries, Home Support care aides, Palliative care nurses (notably Karen and Terri). Special thanks to close friends Harvie and Patty, sister Sandi and family (Kae Dewar in particular) for the love and care given to John in his last months.
He will be missed we know he is at peace forever in the Lord Yehovah’s arms. May He be a blessed memory.
