A couple of brothers and their sister in Oliver spent part of the summer working to raise money to help other kids in need.
Isaac, Ben and Sasha Zeeman collected and sorted countless cans and bottles to raise more than $2,500 for the Cops for Kids campaign. The cause sees current and retired RCMP officers ride bikes across B.C. to raise funds for families who need financial assistance for their children in medical crises.
A lot of the bottles that Isaac, Ben and Sasha collected came from Island View RV Resort in Osoyoos. Their dad, Cst. Jared Zeeman, is a veteran rider for the cause.
Jared told the Times-Chronicle that it’s great to get back on the bicycle seat despite the pandemic.
“It means a lot to all of us to go into each community and meet the different families that benefit from the foundation,” he said. “It really makes a big difference when you’re raising funds, when you know who they are going to and how they are being used.”
Oliver Lions Club representative Linda Schaffrick was very pleased with the total ($4,600) raised in the community last week during the campaign stopover in Oliver.
Schaffrick said the work the Zeeman kids did was fantastic.
“I know that collecting the cans/bottles, etc. is not an easy task, but it’s amazing what can be done when some effort is put into a project. Too bad more kids don’t get out and hustle.”
