PROPOSED BYLAW COULD THREATEN PLANS TO INSTALL ELECTRONIC SIGN AT SCHOOL

A year-long project by the Osoyoos Elementary School’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) has been put on hold due to a new sign bylaw in the works by the Town of Osoyoos.
“We want to purchase one of those electronic message boards,” explained PAC president Sandy Summers. “(But) at our last PAC meeting it was brought to our attention the Town was creating a bylaw that may prevent us having that sign.”

TWO ARRESTED FOLLOWING BANK HEIST

It took police less than an hour to arrest two men suspected of robbing the Osoyoos CIBC on the afternoon of May 21.
At just after 2 p.m., a man walked into the bank on Main Street and passed a teller a note stating he had a weapon, police said.
No weapon was seen.

APPEALS COURT DECISION COULD HAMSTRING TOWN’S NEW SAFE PREMISES BYLAW

A recent decision by the B.C. Court of Appeal may mean the Town of Osoyoos can’t proceed with a new bylaw designed to help fight drug production in local homes.
“How unfortunate,” said Osoyoos Mayor Stu Wells, about a ruling where the court found that entering a person’s premises without a warrant violates Section 8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms – protection against unreasonable search and seizure.
