Looking for a job?
The Work BC Open Door Group and the Osoyoos Indian Band are pleased to partner up once again and host a job fair in Oliver on Wednesday May 16 at the Sen Pok Chin Elementary School gym from 2 to 5 p.m.
Over 20 employers take resumes and speak about the employment opportunities they offer.
Year round employment opportunities exist with employers such as Interior Health Authority, Mariposa Gardens, Oliver Corrections, Vaagen Lumber, Unit Electrical Engineering, Weyerhauser and others.
Resort, winery and serving jobs are available. Some are seasonal and some are full-time year-round with Spirit Ridge, Walnut Beach, Holiday Inn, Black Hills Estate Winery, Terrafina, McDonald’s, Boston Pizza, Miradoro and others.
Construction jobs with Greyback Construction and South Okanagan Concrete will be represented. Consolidated Fruit Packers, Asymetriq Productions and the Okanagan Training and Development Council will also be available to present their unique employment and training opportunities.
If your employer of choice is not represented in this list stop by and speak with the staff at the Work BC Open Door Group about other opportunities such as employment with SOWINS (South Okanagan Women in Need) or training and job start supports, as well as many other services from free workshops, to resumes, to self-employment support.
The Osoyoos Indian Band has also arranged for a very special guest; acclaimed actor and director Nathaniel Arcand will be present.
Nathaniel’s list of credits include appearances on shows such as Heartland, Arctic Air, Bull, North of 60, and films such as Grey Owl, Elektra, The Revenant, American Outlaws and Pathfinder. He will be available to answer questions on his journey and career.
The South Okanagan has seen significant growth in the film industry in recent years and anyone interested in a career in front or behind the camera may want to take advantage of this opportunity to speak with Nathaniel.
My three best tips to prepare to meet potential employers?
- Dress to impress, which means business casual. Remember: first impressions count.
- Bring a resume. In fact, bring many resumes as these employers are looking to hire now! if your resume needs updating the Work BC Open Door Group provides free support to create a resume, or you can go to the offices and use the computers in the resource room.
- Be prepared to ask potential employers a few questions of your own, such as what are you looking for in an employee? What kind of hours, duties and wage? What opportunities for growth exist with your company?
If you would like extra assistance to prepare to meet and speak with employers stop by the Work BC offices at 201-291 Fairview Road and speak with an employment counsellor. The offices are open Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
