Steven Gray
December 6, 1961 ~ February 6, 2021
Steven Gray peacefully passed away on Saturday February 6th
2021 after a long battle with muscular dystrophy. He was 59.
Steven is predeceased by mother Ina Gray, brother Ian Gray,
and daughter Alexia Gray. He is survived by wife Marjana,
son Travis, daughters Cayla and Shayleen, father Jim Gray,
sisters Hazel and Julie, mother-in-law Maria Stukel, and many
loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Steven was born in Scotland on December 6th 1961, growing
up he enjoyed driving and working on vehicles with his dad.
At age 14 his family moved to Vancouver, BC, Canada. At this
point he took up hunting, which turned into a family event with
his father and siblings. After graduation, Steven completed
multiple certificates in welding, mechanics, and plumbing. He
ultimately chose to enter a career in heavy duty mechanics as
he was mostly interested in getting a job in which he would
be able to support his family. Eventually, he stumbled upon
a job working as a mechanic and bus driver for SD53. This
was the perfect job for Steven as he stayed until retirement.
His favorite part of the day was entertaining the children who
took his bus by telling them jokes and stories about his life in
Scotland.
In 1981 he met Marjana Stukel, who would soon become his
life-long partner. They met when Marjana was trying to order
a Uhaul truck from him, to which he replied that she would
get a better deal if she went out with him. Eventually the lights
of his life, Travis, Cayla, and Shayleen were born. Steven’s
favorite activity of all was being a father. He loved to play and
coach his kid’s hockey teams as well as teach them how to fix
their own cars. Steven never gifted his children a brand new
vehicle. Instead, he would give them the mechanics special
– an older car that was fixed up with parts from anywhere.
Everything he did was for his kids and his wife, who love him
very much.
Everything Steve did, he did with passion and humility. He
was a joy to be around and lit up every room he walked into
with his giant smile and deep belly laugh. He will be missed
by all who knew him and will be remembered for all the great
times he had with anyone who had the pleasure to be his
friend.
Steven’s funeral will be at St. Anne Catholic Church on Friday,
February 19th, 2021 at 1pm. Due to COVID, attendance is not
permitted but the event will be live-streamed. For a link to the
