Marie Bernice (Bea) Becker
On Monday December 16th, 2019, Bea moved on to join so many of her brothers and friends. She is now safe and pain free, and is undoubtedly playing crib, having lots of laughs with her brothers.
Bea finished life in great style. On Sunday she FaceTimed her brother Bob and headed off to a Christmas gathering where she was surrounded by her family and some very special friends. She held court as usual and reveled in the attention. It was always a challenge to get Bea to leave such events and this one was no different.
Of the many things that were important to Bea, it was family that mattered most. Having seven brothers will do that. The family stories are legend and have a special place in the collective memory; the numerous Fay family reunions can attest to that. Fire pit jumping, hairy bagels (look that one up), Saskatoon Berry pies… the list is endless.
Wherever Bea lived she got involved in the local community. Whether it was volunteering, golf, curling, a book club, bridge or some other activity she dove right in. She gave back to her local community in many ways: Wellness, the Cancer Drive, and most notably as Chair of the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver from 1987 to 1997.
Bea was a very social person. She enjoyed being around people and made friends easily and her friendships were enduring. She loved a good laugh but was never afraid to speak her mind and let you know what she thought about something. She could be stubborn and strong-willed at times but those were the very traits that served her well as she dealt with various health issues over the years.
Bea will be deeply missed by her loving soul mate and husband of 65 years Jack; children: Pat (Herb), Bob, Anne (Robert); grandchildren: Brad (Kayla), Melissa (Chris), Kate, Keara; great-grand-daughter Brook.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at SOGH, Dr Mark Hamilton as well as the local Community Care workers for their care and support over the past several months.
A Celebration of Bea’s life for family and friends will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 1:00 pm at the Osoyoos Golf & Country Club.
