Some glass work on display at the Art Gallery Osoyoos starting Saturday, Jan. 11. Dale Boyd/Osoyoos Times

The Art Gallery Osoyoos is ready to show off some hidden gems in the local artistic community, after a successful search for rare or never-before-displayed art from around town.

Creativity in Our Community is the result of “wanted” posters put up all over Osoyoos looking for artists.

“We have 37 entries and most of them have never shown in our gallery or a lot of them in any other gallery ever,” said Marge Trosky, co-chair of the gallery committee.

There were no restrictions on what type of art, which brought forth an eclectic gathering of local work. From stained glass pieces, to paintings, felt work and more.

Artists range from eight to 80 years old.

Some of the submitted pieces for the showing come from residents of Country Squire Retirement Villa and Sunshine Ridge as well.

“People at first said ‘no I can’t do it,’ they were hesitant because they said their art was not good enough,” gallery curator Claudia Punter said. “But then you see it and it’s beautiful.”

Eventually the gallery was almost overwhelmed with submissions, having to make some extra room to put all the work on display.

“These artists are hidden, they are artists but they don’t show, so that’s why we are giving them the opportunity.”

Creativity in Our Community runs from Jan. 11 to Feb. 1 at the gallery on Main Street. An opening day celebration takes place on Jan. 11 from noon to 4 p.m. with local artists in attendance.
