A donation from the Skaha Kennel Club is ensuring the Osoyoos Fire Department has our four-legged friends receiving the best care possible in the event of a fire.

Oxygen masks designed for pets were delivered from the club to the fire department on Dec. 2 by past president and life member of the Skaha Kennel Club Bev Grant and fellow life member Gina Holder.

The three sizes of oxygen masks can cover any animal “from a mouse to a colt,” Grant said.

“If we have a structure fire or any situation where a pet has succumb to smoke inhalation, this is a great piece of equipment that can hopefully improve the condition of the pet,” said Dave McMahon, Osoyoos Fire Chief. “Obviously people are very attached to pets, no doubt there is a traumatic sort of thing going on, so to have this equipment, it’s great to have it on the fire truck so we can make attempts to improve things for the animal.”

The Skaha Kennel Club operates from Osoyoos to Summerland, and donates the proceeds from their annual All Breed Show.

“So we decided Osoyoos deserved it,” Grant said.
