Seniors from North Shore’s Norwest Cycling group rode up and down the Okanagan, with a former local leading the group and showing off Osoyoos.

A total of 37 cyclists joined Delphine Mint, 83, and her husband George Nielsen, 85, on a cycling tour of the Okanagan including Osoyoos, Oliver and Naramata to name a few locations.

“They haven’t been here before, so we decided to show it off to them,” Mint said.

Mint and Nielsen still return to the family home after moving to North Shore years ago. Some of the cyclists joining them, ranging from ages 70 to 83, had never been to Osoyoos.

Mint and her husband both grew up in Osoyoos, and still visit the old family home after moving west, so the cyclists joining them also received some history lessons on the journey from Mint, who was the 1955 Cherry Carnival Princess.

The point of the ride? To get outside, enjoy the fresh air and stay in shape.

“We’re just trying to keep fit because we are getting old,” Mint said.

Two more rides followed the Sept. 24 trip through Osoyoos, one in Oliver and one in Naramata, with some of the cyclists riding up to 100 kilometres.
