The Canada Border Services Agency has confirmed that its investigation in Oliver this morning was in relation to a local man accused of firearms smuggling.

Border officials and RCMP executed a search warrant on Osoyoos Indian Band land in relation to the ongoing firearms smuggling investigation associated with Alex Louie. No arrests were made.

On February 1 Louie was arrested by the border agency, which laid a total of nine charges as a result of an incident that occurred at the Osoyoos port of entry on that date.

Louie was charged with: two counts of smuggling, two counts of possession of unlawfully imported goods, and one count of making false statements under the Customs Act; and two counts each of unauthorized possession of firearms and importing firearms knowing it is unauthorized under the Criminal Code.

Louie is currently in custody facing these charges.
