Oliver residents will be looking at small increases in water and sewer rates.

Town council has directed staff to prepare a 1.5 per cent increase in water rates and a 1.25 per cent increase in sewer user rates.

The 1.25 per cent increase in user rates equates to a $4.10 increase over the prior year.

Chief Financial Officer Dave Svetlichny said this increase comes after two years of zero per cent increases in Oliver.

But he noted there was a lot of confusion this year among residents over their irrigation invoices. So he recommended to council that annual bills be invoiced after August 15 to reduce administrative time and provide customers with both metered and annual charges in two separate bills.

Svetlichny noted this will also give farmers approximately five extra weeks to pay their bills.

Council will continue budget discussions in the new year.
