The SOSS Senior Girls Field Hockey Team had a wonderful time last week in Victoria at the BC High School AA Provincial Championships.
The girls went in as the 11th-ranked team and finished in 10th place, but the story is that SOSS has a team to be proud of.
Through wins and losses, inspired play and “learning experiences,” these girls appreciated the opportunity to play and continued to grow, try new things, and learn how to support each other right until their final minute on the field. They won two of their six games and scored eight goals in the tournament.
Many of the top teams in the 12-team tournament were independent schools, with Collingwood School from West Vancouver finishing in top place.
Oliver is the smallest community by far to send a team to provincials. Other highlights of the trip were a visit to the glowing BC Parliament Buildings at night, a walk and dinner in the harbour, and attending a game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Field Hockey Championships (UVic vs UofT).
The team honours graduating players Sierra Callander, Rayleen Chyzzy, Sally Lee and Sienna Bontorin and will miss them next year.
