The hot dry weather we have been experiencing in the South Okanagan has certainly helped local golf courses attract players to its event nights.
That was certainly the case May 20, when a total of 56 golfers attended the NK’MIP Canyon Desert Golf Club Men’s Night. This was the first night of the club’s Major Sponsor Programme – last weeks sponsor was Raleigh Smith of Precision Glass.
In the First Flight, Tony Baptiste took the low gross with a 36, while Jim Shular has the low net with a 34 on a countback. The Second Flight Low Gross was won by Harry Bargen with a 36, and the low net went to Tom Schutz with a 32. In the Third Flight, the Low Gross was won by Chuck Builder and his 39, while the low net went to Max McLaren with his 33.
Multiple winners in the Skins competition were Chuck Builder with three and Sam Baptiste with two.
Fairview Mountain Senior Men’s Golf held its 4 Man Teams/3 Best Nets event May 19.
The Top Five Foursomes In The Best Nets Event were:
1st-Greg Fleming, George Hagel, Kirk Harkness, Jerry Sagstuen – 191; 2nd-Rich Engel, Bill Ross, Bob Thompson, Dave Mccurry – 202; 3rd-Bob Bell, Dan Fudge, Ken Hewlett, John Chapman – 204; 4th-Dick Visser, Brian Davies, Mal Bearman, Jerry Monahan – 205; and 5th-Jerry Duteil, Earl Zinger, Dale Dodge, Vic Martens – 207.
KPs went to Greg Fleming, Kirk Harkness, Jerry Sagstuen and Ken Arnett.
Deuces were won by Greg Fleming and Kirk Harkness for the 0-14 handicappers.
The Fairview Mountain Senior Ladies had their regular day plus an extra “Interclub competition May 20.
Using the Stableford Format, based on points, 1st place went to Lydia Miller – 41 points; 2nd was won by Ruth McLarty with 38 points, and 3rd went to Donna Kemes with 37 points.
Deuces were won by Evelyn Campbell, Lydia Miller and Claudia Bell.
In the Interclub Competition, first round results so far have Osoyoos Golf Club in first place with 82 points, Fairview Mountain Golf Club second with 77 points, Penticton – 74 points, Nk’Mip – 69 points, Summerland – 66 points and Twin Lakes – 62 points.
