Tony Abellan was the best of the Southern Okanagan Secondary School bunch when the Okanagan High School Athletic Association stopped at Nk’Mip Canyon Desert Golf Course for a round April 21.

Abellan shot an 87 on the par-73 layout, and finished fourth overall, seven shots behind the winner, Rachelle Nielson of Summerland Secondary School.

As for other SOSS golfers, Cooper Seminoff  tied for ninth place overall after shooting a 90.

Jamie Fortune shot a 92, Logan Malmberg came in with a score of 101, Ethan Williams finished with a 102, Josh Winley finished with a 109 total, Trent Murray came in at 118, Trevor Shorrie with a 120, Will Kane fired at 124, as did SOSS teammate AF Kyle.

High School golfers will compete in the next event today, (Wednesday) at Osoyoos Golf Club, with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

Nk’Mip Men’s Night attracts 50 players

In the first flight, Kiwi Dave Roberts fired a 35 to win the low gross, while Thad Elder’s 33 won low net.

In the second flight, Ted Ellan shot a 36 to take the low gross, while Mike Kelly and his 32 won low net.

In the third flight, Slick Rick Shillitto and his 41 won low gross, while Bruce Schultz and his 31 took low net.

Winning skins were: Adam Silva and Kiwi Dave Roberts (first flight); Glenn Deobald, Ted Ellan, Greg Oaks, Mike Kelly, and Rod Buffalo (second flight); and Slick Rick Shillitto, Clayton Hillman, Chuck Builder, Gary Sloan, and Bob Davies (third flight).

FMGC senior men beat the pros

Fairview Mountain senior golfers played Beat the Pros April 21.

A total of 15 members managed to have best net scores that were lower than the average of the Pros gross scores, including B. Brimacomb (65), J. Duteil (68), M. Bearman (70), B. Ross (70), B. Bell (70), E. Shugalo (70), S. McLeod (70), P. Wicklund (71), J. Monahan (71), K. Arnett (72), M. Cattermole (72), R. Barker (72), G. Sabo (72), W. Ross (72), B. Davies (72).

The deuce pot went to Wayne Ross (0-14 flight) and to George Sabo and Peter Wicklund (15-plus flight).
