Oliver’s Greg Wheeler, Nunes Pottinger, Vintage Hospitality Management win business awards
It was a great night for networking, for connecting, and for paying tribute to those business and individuals who drive the local economy through their strong work ethic and desire to make the South Okanagan a better place to live.
The South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce held its Business Excellence Awards and AGM Friday evening at Spirit Ridge in Osoyoos.
For Myers Bennett, the outgoing President, it was a chance to thank those who helped advance the Chamber mandate through their hard work on the board. Bennett was instrumental in helping get Mt. Baldy Ski Resort back in operation last weekend, and he travelled to China this past fall with the goal of luring investment dollars into the South Okanagan, and the hope of attracting a downtown hotel complex for Oliver. Talks are ongoing.
Brian Highley was declared President, and is excited to begin the work of exploring all potential areas for economic growth in the region.
Awards were handed out in four categories, with two going to Oliver businesses or individuals.
Greg Wheeler of Remedies Rx/Oliver Pharmacy was named Entrepreneur of the Year. Wheeler spent many years at a drug store in the same location on Fairview, and along with advancing the retail and professional abilities of his current Oliver location, Wheeler is in the process of opening another store in West Kelowna.
Amanda Wright, a Pharmacist at Remedy’s Rx, is a regular contributor to the Chronicle’s Health and Wellness page.
The Small Business Award trophy will also be displayed in an Oliver business.
Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service and Crematorium was handed the Small Business Award, with John Nunes and Daryn Pottinger both on hand to accept the award on behalf of their staff, which also includes Linda Nunes, Penelope Johnson, Maurice Marty, Larry Schwartzenberger, Lucille Hebting and Garry Doll.
Vintage Hospitality Management was the Large Business Award winner, with Dave Keller on hand to accept the trophy.
The best Workplace Environment award went to Osoyoos Credit Union, with Michelle Quail in attendance.
The event was sponsored by eastlink.
