An Oliver man who stuck his neck out for his brother must now undergo counselling.
Last week 24-year-old Eric Daoust was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years’ probation for making a bomb that damaged a vehicle in an alley behind Earle Crescent in 2013.
The accused previously pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea before his trial began in BC Supreme Court on August 25.
The court heard how Eric helped his younger brother Stephan Daoust by making a pipe bomb to scare another young man (Jesse Wilson) whom they clashed with. The bomb was placed under a car at Wilson’s residence, resulting in shrapnel damaging a nearby garage.
Stephan was previously sentenced to jail for the incident. Because Eric had already spent time in custody, he won’t have to serve the additional 30-day sentence that the judge imposed. However, the judge ordered that he undergo psychological counselling while on probation.
