More than a dozen students from Southern Okanagan Secondary School risked detention on Wednesday during their walkout in protest of the teachers’ strike. Administrators warned them about the consequences, but 14 students believed it was time they took a stand. They expressed their concerns about not having a say in the dispute, and being strategically moved around like pawns in a chess game between the government and the BC Teachers’ Federation. Local teachers are walking off the job again tomorrow (Thursday). Most of the protesting students agree that class sizes should be smaller, and more staff resources are needed for special needs. But they believe that teachers already make a good wage and shouldn’t be asking the taxpayer for more money.

Students are still caught in the middle of the teachers' strike, which may continue through the summer.
