In a first for Oliver, the Parks and Recreation Society is hoping to strike a joint-use agreement with School District 53 in order to share facilities.

Parks and Recreation manager Carol Sheridan expressed her excitement about the draft proposal.

“It just opens up a lot of opportunities for students and residents of Oliver,” she said, adding the agreement will help expand the society’s programming.

If approved, the deal will see an exchange of facilities. Sheridan said students will be able to use recreational facilities (arena ice time, for example) at no charge. In return, Parks and Recreation will be able to utilize school facilities for programming purposes.

“We will have more adult and youth recreation by expanding our offerings,” Sheridan said.
