Update: A threatened closure of the emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital on the weekend was averted when physician coverage was arranged, Interior Health announced Saturday.

Once again, Interior Health is announcing the closure of the emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital (SOGH) on Sunday due to lack of physician coverage.

The emergency department will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. and will remain closed until Monday, Aug. 14 at 8 a.m.

Interior Health (IH) advises residents to call 9-1-1 in case of emergency.

They can also visit the emergency department at Penticton Regional Hospital or call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 (24 hours) if they are unsure about the need to go to emergency.

“Interior Health has been working closely with our physician group to secure coverage for this time, but so far we have been unsuccessful,” IH says in a news release.

In some previously announced closures earlier this year, coverage has been obtained late Friday.
