Dear Editor:

I would like to express my gratitude to Rick Jones, Town of Osoyoos’ Fire Chief, for his time and patience with me and my oxygen tank.

A friendly and helpful palliative care nurse had been over to help me become more comfortable using my oxygen tank and she too had run into a problem that we thought was corrected.

But no sooner had she left when I noticed that it was leaking again.

At that point I wasn’t too sure what to do. I sent an email to the therapist asking that it be picked up.

At that point I called the fire chief and he arrived within minutes.

He was wonderful, and showed me how it could be turned off by using an attachment from my vacuum.

He was so very patient with me and for that I am so grateful.

He spent time telling me of others and their experiences with oxygen tanks, which helped me relax and overcome my fear and anxiety.

I am sorry that I had to call him away from his work and hopefully all was OK there.

I just hope that others can realize what a gift he has been to me and probably others as well here in Osoyoos.

Needless to say, the next day when a representative from Vital Aire arrived, I had him take the tank away.

He left me with two oxygen compressors, which I could handle.

Thank you once again to our wonderful fire chief Rick Jones for helping me out during this difficult time.
