You know spring is just around the corner when millions of Canadians are reminded to turn their clocks ahead one hour.

Daylight Saving Time across most parts of British Columbia starts this Sunday, March 13, at 2 a.m.

After an exceptionally long and dreary winter across the entire South Okanagan, it’s the time of year when the days finally get longer and we don’t have to go to work in darkness and drive home in darkness.

It means the sun is still shining when you get home from work and if you work early in the morning, you get finally enjoy a little light for your daily commute.

While we did get to enjoy another tremendously mild winter here in Osoyoos and across the South Okanagan, this was a particularly dark and dreary past four months.

Unless you were up above the clouds skiing or enjoying some kind of other outdoor activity, there were only a handful of days since late November when the sun shone brightly.

It can become rather monotonous and depressing at times.

The good news is spring arrives in only a few days and the beautiful weather we brag so much about here in the South Okanagan has been with us for most of the past couple of weeks.

We are blessed with the warmest weather in the country in this part of beautiful British Columbia and we get thousands of snowbirds visiting our community because of the mild weather, so we really don’t have too much to complain about.

But it is nice to finally get outside and enjoy some extended periods of sunshine because they have surely been lacking these past few months.

Daylight Saving Time ends November 6, 2016 when we “fall back” and turn the clocks back an hour.

There’s no doubt many of us will be complaining about it when that time comes.

Meanwhile, we can all look forward to several months of glorious South Okanagan sunshine, warm weather and endless good times.

You might want to write yourself a little reminder to turn the clock ahead an hour before you lay down your head to go to sleep on Saturday night.
