The inaugural Harvesting Diversity multicultural event sponsored by the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce was a roaring success this past Saturday evening as more than 200 people packed the gymnasium inside the Sonora Community Centre to capacity for an evening of great food and dance.
The event showcased the food, dance and music of several cultures who live in and around Osoyoos. Performers from the Indo-Canadian Dancers, Caudillos del Sur (Mexican dance ensemble), Okanagan First Nation Dancers, as well as Portuguese and Ukrainian dancers, garnered loud applause from the capacity audience throughout the evening. The evening kicked off with a wonderful buffet dinner featuring food from five different cultures. Organizer Cheryle King, a longtime member of the local chamber of commerce, said she was thrilled with the response from the community and is confident that the Harvesting Diversity event will now become an annual event in this community in early November.
