Osoyoos residents should see some familiar locations if they watch The Amazing Race Canada next Wednesday.
The popular CTV show is tightlipped about future episodes, but the Osoyoos Times has learned that several Osoyoos area attractions will be included in the episode airing Wednesday, Sept. 9.
“On the next episode of The Amazing Race Canada, teams race to the beautiful Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, where a road block has some racers ramped in, leaving others in their wake,” said Jim Quan, a spokesperson for Bell Media.
“Teams search high and low for a mini Jon Montgomery figurine and a double U-turn has racers pushing their limits and each other’s buttons,” said Quan, who would not give further specifics about the locations featured.
Nonetheless, local sources said crews from the show were seen in May at the Osoyoos Desert Model Railroad, where thousands of tiny human figurines are placed in villages, ski hills, a mine, a red light district and even a nudist colony.
Finding a miniature figurine of show host Montgomery among these figures could be harder than a proverbial needle in a haystack.
Poul Pedersen, owner of the model railroad, is tightlipped about any filming that might have taken place at the popular tourist attraction.
Sources said crews from the show were also seen at Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre near Osoyoos and Covert Farms near Oliver.
“We really try to keep it a surprise for the viewers,” said Quan of Bell Media. “They’ll find out at the end of Wednesday’s (Sept. 2) episode, so it will start coming out. At the end of each episode they tease the following week.”
Quan said The Amazing Race Canada is CTV’s number one show this summer and it averages 2.5 million viewers a week.
“It’s a big, big, big hit right now,” he said.
The show has not previously been to the Okanagan, Quan added.
Contestants on the show compete in teams of two to complete a series of tasks, with each task providing a clue to lead them to the next one. The last team to complete the task is eliminated.
The show airs at 9 p.m. on Wednesday on CTV and CTV GO.
