The Town of Osoyoos will receive more than $400,000 to help support projects that help tourism infrastructure and amenities.

Linda Larson, the MLA for Boundary-Similkameen, made the announcement late last week that the Town of Osoyoos will receive $403,692 in Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funding.

Osoyoos is one of 14 resort municipalities in British Columbia to receive RMI funding, which is designed to promote the tourism sector and allow these communities to improve infrastructure.

The Liberal government is providing a total of $10.5 million to 14 eligible communities and is extending the RMI program for another year to the end of 2017. Municipalities eligible for RMI funding are Fernie, Golden, Harrison Hot Springs, Invermere, Kimberley, Osoyoos, Radium Hot Springs, Revelstoke, Rossland, Sun Peaks, Tofino, Ucluelet, Valemount and Whistler.

Osoyoos has been participating in the RMI program since 2008. The town has spent RMI funding on numerous projects that expand recreational opportunities and encourage visitors to return to the community, including upgrading Gyro Park and the marina.
