Osoyoos Secondary School (OSS) Vice Principal Shannon Miller is leaving to take an appointment as principal at Cawston Primary School.

Though the move has not been a secret, School District 53 chair Marieze Tarr formally made the announcement last Wednesday, a day before Miller officiated at OSS graduation ceremonies.

Miller’s position will be filled by Lyle Chapman, who is currently employed with School District 83 in North Okanagan-Shuswap.

Chapman has 17 years of education experience and holds a Master of Education degree in leadership and administration. He has been a counsellor and taught physical education and athletics at Salmon Arm Secondary School’s Jackson Campus.

Miller has been with SD 53 since 2008 in roles as acting principal at Tuc-el-Nuit Elementary School, vice principal at Oliver Elementary School and a teacher at South Okanagan Secondary School.

Also announced was that Diane Haddow is taking a position as vice principal at Oliver Elementary School. She has been a teacher at Summerland Middle School in French immersion and learning assistance.

The appointments are effective as of Aug. 1.
