Once again this year the Town of Osoyoos is offering a summer day camp program for children aged five to 12.
Registration for Cactus Kids Day Camp is from 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25 at the Sonora Community Centre.
Registrations after June 25 will be done at the Cactus Centre, where the program takes place.
The camp begins July 2 and runs to Aug. 21. Registration is flexible, said Sarah Dynneson, Town of Osoyoos community services program supervisor.
“People can register for full days, half days, they can register for a week, they can just drop in, they can purchase punch passes,” she said. “It’s very flexible that way.”
The fees range from a high of $20 a full day and $11 a half day for drop-ins with various lower fees for those registering for longer amounts of time.
It runs from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday to Friday, except for the Aug. 3 holiday. Half days are from 1 to 3:45 p.m.
“Everyone is welcome, so they don’t have to be a local to attend,” said Dynneson. “Families that are travelling into town are welcome to come.”
Based on past years, Dynneson said about 70 per cent of participants have been local and 30 per cent from out of town.
Typically there are 30 to 35 children on any given day, but there is room for up to around 60 children.
“We have the leaders to do it, but we just don’t ever get that many kids,” she said.
For many activities, children of all ages participate together, but with seven leaders available, it’s also possible to divide the children by age for some activities, Dynneson said.
The program includes a number of outings, with one highlight being a campout for older children at the Old Cowboy Ranch at Westbridge.
Other outings include Rattlesnake Canyon, skating at the Sunbowl Arena and a trip to the waterslides.
Parents should bring their children’s birth certificates when registering.
