Dear Editor:
Having owned a business in downtown Osoyoos for the past 29 years, I am asking for everyone’s help in curbing the rampant shoplifting and disrespect being shown to local businesses and our community.
Just recently, our store had a break and enter, brazen shoplifting and a flag ripped off our roof.
As a member of the local business community, it is important that we realize shoplifting hurts everyone. Local business provides employment and supports many local charities and events.
Every time someone shoplifts, they are stealing not only from the business in question, but the employees and the community itself.
As a matter of act, during the recent break and enter, all of the donation boxes at the front of the store were taken, including money that was going to be forwarded to the SPCA and the Osoyoos Fireworks Committee.
If at times we seem preoccupied with something and it might look like we not doing too much, we are probably following someone suspicious. I do want everyone to know that we have so many great customers that I have told my staff to enlist them in helping us.
You can’t force a person to show you respect, but you can refuse to be disrespected.
