Put on your sombrero or beachwear and enjoy a margarita – all to celebrate the return of horse racing to Osoyoos.
The Desert Park Exhibition Society is holding is second fundraising event on a Mexican Fiesta theme on Friday, May 23 at the Greenside Grill.
“We wanted to do something different,” said organizer Allison Baskett, noting that the Mexican theme has never been done for an Osoyoos horse racing fundraiser.
The event follows an earlier one at the Sage Pub. A Derby Night dinner is also planned for June 7 at the Watermark Beach Resort.
Friday’s Mexican event will feature such entertainment as live hermit crab racing, a piñata auction, loonie auction and 50/50 draw, said Baskett.
There are prizes for best costumes and guests can dress Mexican, for the beach or fiesta style.
For a $20 ticket, guests get a taco meal with a side dish and a choice of beer, wine or margarita.
The funds raised will help to cover the costs of the first horse-racing day in June at Desert Park.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenside Grill, which is at the Osoyoos Golf Club.
Tickets are available at the Osoyoos Times, Greenside Grill and Edward Jones.
