The Osoyoos Concert Series is once again rolling into town, hosting four shows sure to appeal to a wide range of music lovers from early November through mid-March.
“We’re a small community and we don’t have access to the large concert halls,” said Ron Leigh, director with the Osoyoos Concert Series. “So this is an opportunity for the people of Osoyoos to see some professional artists that they might not normally have had the opportunity of seeing.”
The first show of the year will be held on November 14 and will feature David Myles – an Australian musician who plays a combination of folk and roots music.
Myles has won a number of awards as a result of his musical talents.
The second show of the year will be the series’ Christmas show, which will be held on December 13 and will feature a performance from The Sojourners – a gospel trio based in Vancouver who specializes in folk, roots and blues music.
“They’ll probably sing a few Christmas carols as well to get people in the right mood,” said Leigh.
The third show of the year is something a little bit different from the rest.
Instead of having a talented musician entertain the crowd for a night, the series is bringing in a musical theatre comedy called “Pilot Co-Pilot”, which will be held on January 31.
“That’ll be quite interesting,” said Leigh with a small chuckle. “He’s a neurotic money manager who loses all his money in the recession and takes matters into his own hands to build a deck.”
Leigh said a deck is actually built right on stage during the show and members of the audience are invited up to help with the construction.
“It should be quite humorous,” he said.
The final show of the season will be held on March 14 and will feature none other than The Fugitives – a modern folk group based out of Vancouver.
Out of all four performances, Leigh said he would love to go to all of them as they all offer something a little different.
“We have a good lineup this year,” he said.
All four shows are scheduled to be held at the Osoyoos Secondary School Mini Theatre (7802 Spartan Drive), with each show beginning at 7:30 p.m.
This is a wonderful venue as performers get to enjoy an intimate setting with very solid acoustics and appreciative audiences for virtually every performance, said Leigh.
Tickets for each show cost $25 at the door or $23 if bought in advance (Imperial Office Pro in Osoyoos or Sundance Video in Oliver). Season tickets for all four concerts can also be purchased for $80, which is a great price, said Leigh.
