Oliver is back in the movies and when Bollywood production Parvaaz hits theatres the Frank Venables Theatre will be in it.
On Sunday the theatre was used to film a scene in Parvaaz, meaning “The Journey,” filmed mainly in Oliver and Osoyoos and featuring extras from the area as well.
But Parvaaz is not only filmed in the South Okangan; it’s set in it as well. The film tells the story of an immigrant family trying to preserve their own culture while incorporating a new one.
“They get used to the Canadian culture and then the father and son have a conflict because the father thinks that he has lost his culture,” writer and producer Barney Thomson said.
Navjot Barney, one of the film’s producers, said characters of about 15 different ethnicities are represented in the film.
“Basically, we are showing multiculturalism of Canada.”
The film is directed by Gurbir Singh Grewal and stars Gulshan Grover as a winery owner. It is scheduled to be released by the end of the year.
Oliver and Osoyoos were also previously featured in The Humanity Bureau featuring Nicolas Cage.
