CONGRATULATIONS FOR SOME GOOD MOVES FOR OSOYOOS
(OSOYOOS TIMES — August 2, 2006) —
It's time for kudos for some good things happening in our community . . .* * * . . . To Regional District Area 'A' Director Mark Pendergraft, for pushing for a solution to the problem of septic-tank sewers in the north end of Osoyoos, stretching right up to the head of the lake at Willow Beach. By calling for a study into the problem, Pendergraft is pursuing the important first step in cutting through the red tape of Town vs. Regional District jurisdiction “ and getting us all closer to cleaning up what we suspect is a situation harmful to the quality of our lake water.
* * * . . . To local RCMP officers, for persevering and arranging for a multi-agency capture of our elusive convicted truck thief, Michael Ellis. The Mounties worked to avoid a dangerous high-speed chase to catch the slippery Ellis, and opted instead for some patience and teamwork that eventually paid off.
* * * . . . To the board of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, for using federal communications rules to ask TELUS to do a cost study that will pave the way for an expanded area for free local telephone services in the South Okanagan. The move promises to eventually give a price break to residents and an economic boost to local businesses by opening up a larger free-phoning area. It may be a small step in itself, but moves like this all add up to better, more convenient services in our community.
* * * . . . And finally, a big welcome to our new RCMP detachment commander, Kurt Lozinski. We look forward to the move he and his family are making to Osoyoos “ both for the benefit to our local police services and the nice addition to our community.
