Condo developments hurting Osoyoos
Editor:rnI would like to express my feelings. North Osoyoos needs protection from greedy people, who only see benefits of development. We need sewage removal from the lakeshore areas. We do not need condos and loss of more lakeshore.
The tourists and snowbirds visit Osoyoos. They do not pay our taxes. Hotels and motels, plus rental condo units need to be contributing to costs in our town and upkeep of walkways.
I feel badly for residents who moved to Osoyoos years ago to build their dream homes. Now they look out on to backs of condo complexs. Their view of the sky is gone!rnOsoyoos is not Mexico, Whistler or any other resort city. The real estate ads splashed across bottom of local papers, indicate the need of wealth to move here.
What do you say to the tourist looking for a campground? They don't have many here – you have to book a year in advance.
Main Street Osoyoos is similar to a funnel. There's only so much you can pour into it at a time.
There are condos everywhere now, but I see no improvement in more important areas. The museum, Seniors complex, Art Gallery, Health Unit, medical and lab offices remain outdated and inadequate.

Editor:rnThe Three Stooges… Harper, Layton, & DoucetternIt would appear that these three are going to try to over throw the government that we elected some months ago.
It would appear that they are so terrified that the existing minority government is acting in the best interests of the country, that they may be elected again. Hence, they can't wait for the next Gomery report which comes in February, 2006, and our Prime Minister has promised an election one month after this report.
This evil little triumvirate are determined to plunge us into an expensive, unwanted election that will probably result in the same situation we have now… a Liberal minority government.
Give us a break, Martin said he would call an election after the final Gomery report. Can't these power hungry vultures wait? No, they think they will lose again because the Liberals are too good at governing.

Editor:rnI would like to take this opportunity to thank those people in our town that exercised their right to vote. Congratulations to the successful candidates in Mayor, Councilor, Regional District and School Trustee positions.
The next step we as the community have to accomplish is holding those elected accountable to their actions and to their campaign promises. As a community we need to come together and work as a team with our newly elected officials, regardless of the position.
Today, some of you may be wondering, what happened?? I did not think he/she would get elected. Next time be informed before you mark the ballot, know who you are voting for and their platform goals. A good place to start is reading the newspaper and attending candidate forums.
I know that I will be taking a pro-active stance to ensure campaign promises are met, we as a community should also.
