Credit should be given to those making new park happen
Any concerns that the new skateboard park wouldn't be going ahead this year were unfounded.
At an update meeting last Wednesday, Town of Osoyoos councillor Dick Flintoft laid all of those concerns to rest. In fact, Flintoft was key in making sure that new skateboard would be going ahead, and soon.
The process has started to have construction on the new park begin as early as July, with contract tenders going out immediately. The town, and councillor Flintoft specifically, have weathered many criticisms throughout the long process to have a skateboard park built in Osoyoos. That is why we think that he should be given credit when it was his words and efforts that helped ensure this important project will get started as soon as possible.
There has been some concern that after the big, and overwhelmingly successful, push to raise $50,000 to build the park that the project had some how gotten sidetracked and was in jeopardy of being put off until next year.
As we all know, once summer hits Osoyoos everything stops because of the massive influx of tourists. There is no question we are still a summer town.
But Flintoft made it abundantly clear that he and council understood the community's support for this project and that it needed be started right away.
Flintoft is definitely right when he talks about the community's support for this project and it was refreshing to see him, and thus the town, get behind the skateboard park and give it the push it needed to get rolling once again.
