MP Richard Cannings is calling on Air Canada to rethink its decision to cut its early morning and late night flights connecting Penticton and Vancouver after a study completed by the City of Penticton found that over 60 per cent of survey respondents would likely decrease their flights out of Penticton due to the changes.

The survey results show Air Canada is chopping the wrong flight from its schedule, said the South Okanagan – West Kootenay MP.

“When you have over 80 per cent of the people who fly out of Penticton saying keep the overnight flight with its 6 a.m. departure to Vancouver you have to wonder what Air Canada was thinking,” said Cannings.

“That early morning flight is an important business connection with Vancouver. I think Air Canada is being a ‘penny wise but a pound foolish’ by ending these flights.”

The city received 2,614 responses from aross the Okanagan Valley.

“We believe it makes a strong case for the early morning flight to Vancouver and the late night return,” said director of Development Services Anthony Haddad.
