A conceptual drawing released in June 2013 shows what the Osoyoos Home Building Centre will look like after it becomes the home of the Osoyoos and District Museum and Archives in 2020.

The Osoyoos Museum Society (OMS) is now 10 per cent closer to making its new $2.5 million home a reality.

The society has been awarded $250,000 in funding from the BC Community Gaming Capital Project Grant program.

The funds will be applied to the cost of the working drawings, as well as the core building elements, of the New Osoyoos Museum
project.

The OMS gains possession its future home at 8702 Main St., the current location of Osoyoos Home Building Centre, on Jan. 1, 2020.

It plans to immediately start the $2.5 million renovation project.

Plans include increased accessibility, improved energy efficiency, dedicated storage areas, a multipurpose educational space and new exhibits focused on three main themes of the land, the people and the industry.

The OMS is also applying to other grants and foundations, as well as accepting private donations and hosting fundraising events.
