Dear Editor:
In response to your front page article January 24, “Third Cannabis Store Proposed,” all I can say is are you kidding me.
Have any of the applicants actually looked at the demographic data for Osoyoos and surrounding areas? The 2016 Canada Census shows that with a population of just over 5,000, 43 per cent are over the age of 65. The average age for the town is 50.1 years. Osoyoos as a town has the second highest seniors (65 plus) population per capita in Canada; Parksville, B.C. has the most.
The applicants are not following proper business practices if they have not done in-depth market surveys and provide data showing an actual need for this service and that it will produce profits for the stakeholders. Again, really, three stores?
