Original story:
A thunderstorm and heavy rains forecasted to pass through Osoyoos and the South Okanagan on Thursday afternoon and Friday could lead to flash floods and has prompted Environment Canada to issue a weather alert.
“A low pressure system will develop over the southwest interior tonight resulting in widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms,” the alert states.
Rainfall amounts will vary across the region, with 10 to 20 mm expected through Friday afternoon.
Areas affected by thunderstorms could see higher amounts in excess of 30 mm, Environment Canada said.
If over unstable slopes or concentrated over the same area, higher rainfall amounts could lead to flash floods or landslides.
Rain is expected to continue into Saturday and become scattered later in the day. Next week temperatures are expected to hit 30 C.
